As women and feminists, we reject the attack on trans people's rights, freedom and healthcare access undertaken in our name.

We are mothers, daughters, friends, sisters, partners, colleagues, caregivers, and leaders. Alongside our transgender siblings, we are united in our dream of a world that affords dignity, human rights and equality to all women and to everyone impacted by gender-based oppression.

We do not shame or blame any woman or feminist who has felt anxious or uncertain about trans rights. Those targeting our transgender siblings are using lies and fear to portray our trans siblings as a threat. We welcome women from all walks of life to reject their lies and join us in building a Canada where women, girls and trans people are free, safe and supported.

Throughout our lives, we have endured harassment, discrimination, violence, and abuse in countless forms. As women, we know intimately what discrimination, violence and oppression feel like. And we know who is responsible: cisgender (non-trans) men who abuse their power. Patriarchy, built to subjugate, control and oppress women and anyone who defies misogynistic gender norms, is the real threat.

We witness the devastating impact of anti-trans rhetoric dressed up as feminism while advancing nothing but harm while politicians weaponize fear and stigma and avoid addressing the systemic issues that actually endanger women.

Under the guise of protecting women, politicians are pushing an agenda that threatens women's rights, jeopardizing bodily autonomy and opening the door to attacks on reproductive healthcare. By overriding the rights of transgender people, they weaken the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, putting women’s rights at risk. They seek to poison our culture such that we turn on our neighbours, our sisters and our siblings.

Trans people seeking to live their lives with dignity has never been a threat to women. The real threat is what it has always been: a culture and system that enables male violence and then blames everyone except the men who commit it.

We refuse to be complicit in this misdirection. We refuse to allow our experiences to be weaponized against other women and marginalized people. We refuse to stay silent. Our future requires that we stand united against the forces that seek to divide us. Trans people are our siblings. Their struggle is our struggle. Their safety is our safety. Their dignity is our dignity.

We want Canadian politicians and media to recognize that there are countless women across the country who are supportive of the trans community.

We want politicians and the media to recognize that there is a large number of women who are supportive of the trans community. We call on them to speak truthfully about the sources of violence against women and address the systems that perpetuate harm instead of blaming trans people.
